I recently visited Siabona Primary School, located in one of the fishing communities in Namayingo District. This visit was part of the Iceland Embassy project, carried out by KAWA, to provide technical support to the school and improve the learning experience for both students and teachers.
The School and Its Community
Siabona Primary School is found in a remote area of Namayingo District, near Lake Victoria. The local community mainly relies on fishing for their livelihood. The school serves as a vital place for children in the area, offering them a chance to learn and grow despite the limited resources.
Purpose of the Visit
The main goal of the visit was to offer technical support and ensure that the resources provided by the Iceland Embassy project were being used effectively. This included checking the equipment, training the teachers, and addressing any issues they faced.
Activities During the Visit
Several important activities took place during the visit:
- Checking ICT Equipment: We assessed the condition of the school’s computers, projectors, and other digital tools to ensure they were working well and could be used for teaching.
- Teacher Training: We trained the teachers on how to use the technology in their lessons. This covered basic computer skills and how to make the most of educational software and online resources.
- Maintenance and Support: We also helped fix any problems with the equipment and gave advice on how to keep everything in good working order.
The visit to Siabona Primary School highlighted both the challenges and opportunities of bringing technology into schools in rural areas. The teachers and students were eager to learn, and the support provided is expected to make a positive difference in their education.
To ensure lasting progress, ongoing support and follow-up visits will be necessary. The partnership between KAWA and the Iceland Embassy will continue to focus on improving education in communities like Namayingo, giving every child the chance to succeed.
This visit showed the important role that education and technology play in changing lives, even in the most remote places. With the continued efforts of projects like this, schools in fishing communities can look forward to a brighter future, filled with opportunities for learning and growth.
